Sunday sketching in January: Chinatown
janvier 10, 2016
It’s almost Chinese New Year so let’s meet for our annual Dim Sum Lunch on January 24, at Restaurant Kim Fung (used to be called Kam Fung) in Chinatown. We can eat and sketch food and portraits, or if it’s nice, we can sketch street life and bounce around shops on De la Gauchetière.
We usually split the check evenly, and it ends up not too expensive. If you want to opt out of the meal just let us know on the day. You can come well fed and draw everyone else with their mouth full. Vegans and people with Gluen/food allergies – Dimsum is probably not great for you. We can try for non-sauced veggies? Perhaps come equipped with some research on alternate Chinese food?
- Meetup 10am, Resto Kim Fung
- There are no reservations, we will arrive on time and try for a big table. In past years we have had to take two tables.
- 1111 Rue Saint-Urbain M05, Montréal, QC H2Z 1Y6
- After Party: 3pm: Corner of St. Urban and De la Gauchetière, and we can find the most nearby tea shop/bakery that can seat us.

What is the date for this January Sketching? And when is the February sketching (so I can plan ahead) I thought they were typically the first Sundays, am I correct? I am so looking forward to my first sketching with the group!
Hi Carol,
We always meet on the fourth Sunday of the month. The date for February will be Feb. 28th. Looking forward to meeting you.
Shari
And in January it will be on the 24th.

I can’t find the date.

Sounds great, I’d love to try to be there! Do you generally speak English or French during the meetings?
Almost everyone is bilingual except me and a very few otter die hard Anglos. So it’s about 50/50 depending on who you hang out with 🙂
Montreal is pretty billingual but it’s a relief to have some Anglos cuz my French is crapy as heck. Really looking forward to participate for the first time after stalking the blog for so long lol any advice to prepare the first-time sketcher? 🙂
Just bring simple sketching stuff, not too much stuff as we’ll be around the table this time 🙂 Talk to whoever you end up sketching with and have fun meeting people. This might be a good one for a portrait day 🙂
Thank you! That’s a relief, my French is still lame and I feel uncomfortable about that 🙂
