Sunday Sketching: Jan 25 – Westmount Conservatory

SUNDAY SKETCHING: Westmount Public Library and Conservatory
This is a compact indoor location, with only a small amount of seating, but some greenery will be nice at this time of year! Also, there is the library and Somebody-or-Other Hall next door (can’t recall the name) which might offer winter views out the windows. Maybe we can be tough enough to get the outside view (Shari’s sketch from last year below). I might try ducking in and out of the place to warm up 🙂
Directions to the library {HERE}.
- Starting Point: 10 am Inside the Greenhouse. (Enter via the Library, opens at 10am).
- Lunch break: 12:30-1:30 pm: Shops are a few blocks west on Sherbrook. The closest cafe that I have been to is Pâtisserie De Gascogne: 4825 Rue Sherbrooke Ouest.
- Ending Meetup: 4pm back at the library. Perhaps we will find some seating in there to hang out at end of day.
Great! I’m looking forward to it!
Tania
Lovely!
i will be there for the first time at the sunday sketching
Hi everyone. I a beginner in sketching, though I have been taking drawing and watercolor lessons for 1 year. I would love to join you, but I was wondering if my level was sufficient ? Thanks for the answer ! Alexia
Hey Alexia – please do come, anyone is welcome. We have people at all skill levels, from beginner to professional, and we all share our drawings, tips, and tricks. Everyone welcome!
The Westmount Conservatory is open on Sundays from 10am to 5pm and is accessible via the front door. It may be accessible via the library although not necessarily. Victoria Hall next door will be open on Jan.25 only because there is an exhibit in their gallery. The gallery is next door to the conservatory and might be accessible via a walkway from the conservatory, but will definitely be accessible from the outside. It is small but bright – no seating, so you need to come prepared. There is no place to hang out in the library, and not really in Victoria Hall unless you want to sit on the stairs inside the front entrance. How do I know all this? Because I used to work there. I can imagine myself sketching in either the conservatory or the gallery by myself, or with a few friends – it’s gorgeous there but not spacious. Maybe you have checked this all out, Marc(?)
Yes it’s not the most spacious venue – but we did have a few requests for this spot – so I’m hoping it will all work out 🙂 🙂 If the weather is half as good as today I’ll be willing to try one outside! (Bravado speaking now!). The last exhibit in the gallery (Catherine Bates) was quite excellent, so looking forward to what they have next. ~m
